Fellowships & Careers
Cultivating the next generation of investigative and civic reporters. We provide hands-on mentorship, rigorous editing, and meaningful local reporting assignments across our Bay Area newsrooms.
The Local Reporting Fellowship
Our fellowship program is designed for early-career journalists and recent graduates seeking to master the fundamentals of beat reporting, municipal investigation, and community journalism. Fellows work directly alongside senior editors, publishing bylined stories covering city government, public safety, school boards, and regional policy.
Student Journalism Residencies
We partner with Bay Area universities, community colleges, and student publications to offer part-time reporting residencies. Student fellows receive one-on-one editing, develop a professional portfolio, and earn fair hourly compensation.
What We Look For
- Relentless curiosity about local government, policy, and neighborhood institutions
- Commitment to factual precision, fairness, and ethical sourcing
